We have an interesting, diverse and opinionated team at Barrie Olive Oil, especially when it comes to food, diet and lifestyle. While we’re all focused on eating for health and enjoyment, we have differing ideas on how to maintain good-for-us eating habits. Amongst us there are vegetarians, vegans, and omnivores. Some of us plan our diets around health issues and their prevention. We follow the ketogenic, the Whole-30, the DASH and the MIND diets.

Bottoms line: we all love to eat. And we are all fans of healthy fats!

For most of us, we don’t think of ‘diets’ as in ‘for strictly losing weight’; rather, they are meal plans and lifestyles that we adopt for the health of our lives and our families.

The common theme throughout our meal plans is—believe it or not—our consumption of healthy fats, and for us, that means hearty doses of extra-virgin olive oils!

Throughout the next few months, we’ll be blogging and talking about our individual diet styles. We’ll hear from Gay, who adopted the ketogenic diet and has never felt better. Her challenges include balancing of fats with protein and carbs. In the high-fat keto diet, it’s important to consume the ‘right’ fats. Gay finds that olive oil is the best ‘fat’ choice due to its high concentration of heart-healthy monounsaturated oleic acid.

Carol’s working on the Whole30 diet. Because Whole30 bans grains and legumes, many cooking oils are off-limits. Soybean, peanut and corn oils are restricted, while the use of canola, sesame, sunflower and safflower oils is limited. So, what’s the best oil for the Whole30 diet? It’s extra-virgin olive oil!

Marcia cooks healthy options for her family, which means she includes lots of colour and variety at every meal. Instead of piling the plates with starches, she adds more salads and veggies. Extra-virgin olive oils, flavoured oils and balsamics add zip to her efforts, and sure enough, even the kids like the results.

A few years ago, Veronica’s fiancé was diagnosed as pre-diabetic, so she cooks high-fat, low-carb meals and relies heavily on olive oil to provide healthy fat. Good news is, her fiancé has lost 60 pounds and is a lot healthier as a result!

So stay tuned to our blog to learn more about the skinny on fats in our diets, and drop us a line to let us know how you use olive oil to boost your health. We look forward to hearing from you!
